3-30-2012

Today I read all morning while everyone else hung out around the resort.  Later on we went and played mini golf at an amazing place. They had all kinds of different plants from all over the world. These included bamboo, sugar cane, and many others. Afterwards, my dad and us kids had dinner at Bubba Burgers. Everyone else had dinner at Dolphins. Here’s some trivia………… What are 3 locally grown foods in Hawaii.

Me and my grandma opened a coconut. It took 2 hours because you half to cut open the extremely hard shell.  My grandma hopes we don’t bring home any more coconuts.  Why do so many stray cats live in Hawaii?

Yesterday’s trivia answer:  Hanakapiai FallsThe falls are often said to be 1000 feet tall, however in reality it appears to be about half that. There are three more waterfalls about half a mile upstream which likely have been grouped together as part of this waterfall (though they shouldn't be).

The amazing HIKE!!

Today we went on a hike to an amazing waterfall!!! It was an 8 mile hike. 4 miles there, 4 miles back. The boys played mini golf with my grandma while we were hiking. Before we got to the waterfall we stopped at the ocean to eat lunch. There were wild kittens living there. When we got to the waterfall, my dad and Uncle Brian went swimming in the freezing water. My dad came out looking blue and shaking. We went down the river and found what was like a small pool. We all decided to go swimming. Everyone jumped off a rock into the freezing cold water. It took a while for everyone to convince me to jump in. When I did I regretted it. The water was freezing! Then we walked back to the car. On the way home Samantha decided that she wanted a coconut. We saw one in someone’s yard and we grabbed it. They had lots more, so they wouldn’t mind. Here’s some trivia………What is the name of the tallest waterfall in Kauai?--Joslin

We were half way to the waterfall and we saw lots of stray cats.  They were so cute. The black kitten was my favorite.  We went to a smaller lake below the waterfall and I jumped in four times.  We hiked by an amazing grove of tall bamboo. There is a beach that if you try to swim in the water you can die because the current will suck you out into the ocean and smash you against the rocks.--Samantha

The answer to yesterday’s trivia is  hurricane Neki in October 2009.

This morning we were all woken up by rosters at in the morning. We went to the beach and built sand castles. Later on, my grandma, dad, and Uncle Brian went golfing. The rest of us went to Hanalei Bay. Samantha and I waded out into the ocean and jumped waves. After that, we built a giant sand castle. We ate lunch at Bubba Burgers and then had more shave ice. We came home and went swimming. Here’s some trivia…….When was the last hurricane in Hawaii and what was its name?

Aloha from Hawaii!  After a long day of flying we finally arrived in Kauai.  This morning we played at the beach.  Our dad tried to get us to go snorkeling and the water seemed a little chilly as it was overcast.  After the beach we went to the pool and hot tub to swim.  We were tired from travelling and all of us took naps.  We went to Hanalei and had shave ice and shopped.  We walked on the pier in Hanalei and saw small schools of fish in the bay.  Here's some trivia for you... Where on Kauai does the famous surfer from "Soul Surfer" live??
